Malang, June 20, 2024 – In response to the Ministerial Decree of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 236/O/2024 on International Accreditation Bodies, Brawijaya University held an online socialization event. This event aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the policy and its implications for educational institutions, particularly at Brawijaya University.
Ministerial Decree Number 236/O/2024 was issued in response to the demands of globalization and the need to improve the quality of higher education in Indonesia. International accreditation is seen as a strategic effort to ensure that educational standards in Indonesia can compete globally. With this accreditation, it is hoped that the quality of graduates from Indonesian universities will be recognized and valued worldwide.
The purpose of this socialization is to provide clear and comprehensive insights to the entire academic community regarding this new policy. A deep understanding is required so that all parties can contribute to the effective and efficient implementation of the policy. The expected benefits of this activity include:
- Improved Quality of Education: By understanding international accreditation standards, Brawijaya University can formulate more targeted strategies to improve the quality of education.
- International Recognition: Graduates of Brawijaya University will gain international recognition, opening up greater opportunities for global careers.
- Global Competition: Brawijaya University can compete more effectively at the international level, both academically and in research
- International Collaboration: International accreditation will facilitate the university in establishing collaborations with educational and research institutions worldwide.
The event was attended by Vice Deans for Academic Affairs, Department Heads, Study Program Heads, Heads of Faculty Quality Assurance Groups, and the LPM Team of Brawijaya University. This activity is expected to serve as a constructive discussion forum for all participants. Two main topics were discussed by competent speakers in this socialization:
Explanation of Ministerial Decree Number 236/O/2024 on International Accreditation Bodies will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Slamet Wahyudi, S.T., M.T. He will provide a comprehensive overview of the background, objectives, and implementation of this policy.
In this socialization, Prof. Dr. Slamet Wahyudi, S.T., M.T. will give an in-depth explanation of the Ministerial Decree of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 236/O/2024 on International Accreditation Bodies. This policy has several main backgrounds. First, the globalization of education demands that higher education institutions in Indonesia improve their quality and international competitiveness. International accreditation is considered one way to ensure that our educational standards match global standards. Second, the demands of the global job market increasingly recognize the importance of international accreditation. With this accreditation, graduates from Indonesian educational institutions will be more easily accepted and valued in the international job market.
The goal of this policy is to enhance the quality of higher education in Indonesia to meet international standards, strengthen the reputation of educational institutions on the global stage, and increase the competitiveness of graduates in the international job market. Implementing this policy will involve various strategic steps, including improving curricula, facilities, and human resources in educational institutions. Educational institutions in Indonesia will be encouraged to collaborate with recognized international accreditation bodies that meet global standards. Prof. Dr. Slamet Wahyudi will provide a comprehensive overview of the background, objectives, and implementation steps of this policy, as well as how educational institutions can prepare to face the changes and challenges ahead.- Impact of the Policy on Brawijaya University will be explained by the Head of the International Accreditation Center, Putu Mahardika Adi Saputra, S.E., M.Si., M.A., Ph.D. He will discuss in detail how this policy will affect the accreditation process at Brawijaya University and the strategies that need to be implemented to meet international accreditation standards.
- International accreditations AQAaS and ASIIN obtained by study programs at UB will remain recognized as international accreditations until their validity period expires (ranging from 2027 to 2029). After this validity period, AQAS will no longer be recognized as an international accreditation, while ASIIN will only be recognized as an international accreditation within the scope of Information Science, and Natural and Mathematical Sciences.
- UB study programs that have registered for accreditation from international accreditation bodies as stipulated in the previous decree (Decree 83/P/2020), but these international accreditation bodies are no longer stipulated in Decree 236/O/2024, are given a maximum of 2 (two) years to obtain full accreditation.
- Fulfillment of Conditional and Postponed status from AQAS.
- ABEST21 accreditation remains not recognized by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
- IABEE (Engineering, Engineering Technology, Informatics and Computing) and IAAHEH (Medicine) are recognized as international accreditations.
This activity is expected to strengthen Brawijaya University’s commitment to improving the quality of education and competing at the international level.
